Wrong time to enter blogosphere

It almost feels like this is the wrong time to enter the blogging world, with one of the top bloggers, Kathy Sierra, receiving death-threats. It just feels dirty, reading what these four individuals have done in terms of harassing her. I guess I don’t have much to worry about in the way of receiving death-threats as I don’t expect that this blog will reach an audience much larger than my closest relations. Kathy does end her post with a great outlook, full of hope, that we as the blogging community can stop this sort of behavior now, before this sort of thing becomes commonplace:

Do not put these people on a pedestal. Do not let them get away with calling this “social commentary”, “protected speech”, or simply “criticism”. I would never be for censoring speech–these people can say all the misogynistic, vile, tasteless things they like–but we must preserve that line where words and images become threats of violence. Freedom of speech–however distasteful and rude the speech may be, is crucial. But when those words contain threats of harm or death, they can destroy a life.
